Star Sighting: Meredith Baxter-Birney!!!

Meredith was here for a weekend retreat. Over lunch, we had a great discussion about books. (Stop laughing.) Meredith highly recommended Cormac McCarthy’s new book about the end of the world. I tried to convince her to finish “Gilead” by Marilynn Robinson, which I “read” during my commute last fall.

During our discussion, I never once mentioned “Family Ties,” despite growing up assuming that all Republicans were as cute and harmless like Alex P. Keaton. Good Angelinos are too cool to fawn over celebrities. Unfortunately, I may have given her the impression that I was too young to know who she was. But it’s not true, Meredith! Not only did I know you as Alex’s wise and acerbic mom, I knew you from your later incarnation as one of the Holy Trinity (along with Joanna Kerns and Judith Light) of mothers/wives/victims from Lifetime movies. I’m just glad that God has granted you repose from the endless abusive husbands and kidnapped babies that marked your years on Lifetime.
